Homemade Cheddar Cheese Condensed Soup

Homemade Cheddar Cheese Condensed Soup

Here’s the Recipe

Prep time: 5 minutes

Cook time: 5 minutes

Total time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (you can use the bagged kind or grate your own – totally up to you!)

1 cup milk

1 tablespoon butter

1 tablespoon flour

(you can sub the milk for heavy cream – in this instance, you will not need the butter or flour either as the sauce will thicken on its own)

Directions:

  1. Melt butter over medium heat in a sauce pan.
  2. Once melted, add flour and whisk. Cook flour for about 30 seconds to a minute.
  3. Whisk in milk.
  4. Once thickened, turn off the heat and add the cheddar cheese. Whisk to combine.
  5. It is done at this point – you can add it to pasta or pour over veggies or meat. Enjoy!

Notes:

  1. If using heavy cream instead of milk, just heat the cream to a simmer. Once simmering, whisk in cheddar cheese to combine and turn off heat. Pour this over, rice, noodles, chicken, broccoli or whatever your heart desires!

Inspiration:

This cheddar cheese condensed soup recipe is a game changer! I always used to use the store-bought condensed soups for my recipes but once I learned how to make them myself, I haven’t gone back! It is much cheaper and SO worth it. This is so versatile and so quick to pull together. I use this recipe in my Crunchy Chicken Cheese Bake recipe and in mac and cheese (it has so much potential!). It is also great poured over some steamed broccoli or any veggie, let’s be real. It is such a money saver and quick to create – plus you get to control all of the extra ingredients. Honestly, I think all of my recipes end up tasting much better when I use my homemade recipe versus store bought – must be all of the extra love I add :).
